It’s a brand new day for a Spider-Man fans! Sony and Marvel have finally released the Official Trailer for an upcoming Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We get our first look at Peter Parker, MJ, new villains, story and New York City which is finally beautiful (compared to Jon Watts NYC).

The movie takes place 4 years after the events of No Way Home and few weeks/months after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Peter Parker leads a new life, still being forgotten by the world. The trailer consistently develops this theme. The character played by Tom Holland operates in a reality where he no longer has any personal connections. He observes MJ and Ned from a distance, focusing mainly on being Spider-Man.

In the trailer, we see a moment where Peter Parker wakes up in a cocoon. This is where theories begin to emerge that Parker is transforming into Man-Spider, a mutated form of Spider-Man. Supporting this theory, Bruce Banner (played by Mark Ruffalo) appears and says that his DNA is mutating. Will we see a live-action Man-Spider? There’s a strong chance for this.

Jon Bernthal returns as Punisher, and in the trailer we see him interfering with Spider-Man during his mission. Most likely, he will help Parker in the end, as theories suggest he is meant to protect him from something bigger.

The teaser also features a whole lineup of supervillains, such as Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and The Hand. This confirms rumors from a few months ago about a large number of antagonists.

The character played by Sadie Sink (reportedly Jean Grey) appears only for a few brief seconds, and we don’t see her fully. However, we still get a small teaser of her powers (most likely hers): psychic jumping between bodies. If the rumors turn out to be true, Sink will play a major role in the film, and many theories suggest she will help Parker restore MJ’s memory.

Fan Theories that Makes Sense

The first idea is that this movie is going to be the start of mutants being introduced into the Marvel universe. Peter is of like a catalyst for this change. The trailer has some clear hints about DNA-level mutation and his body is acting differently. This means that his powers might not be an accident like they used to be. Some people think that the character played by Sadie Sink might be like Jean Grey (like I said before) from the X-Men. There are also some hints about telepathy and mind interference. So people think that Marvel is getting ready for the X-Men to arrive in the universe sooner than later. Spider-Man is an important character and he might be the bridge between the Avengers and the X-Men. This movie would not just be another superhero story but the start of something much bigger in the Marvel universe.

The second idea is that this movie is based on a storyline called "The Other". This storyline is about Spider-Man changing in a way. The trailer has some clues that support this idea. There is a scene where Peter wakes up in a web cocoon and his eyes look different. It seems like he is going through some kind of change. In the comics this change did not just make Spider-Man stronger. It also changed him into something more primal and mystical. So this movie might be about Peter losing his humanity and becoming a version of Spider-Man. The title "Brand New Day" might refer to the birth of a Peter Parker one that is more unpredictable and dangerous.

It is interesting that these two ideas do not contradict each other. More and more people think that Marvel might combine them. Peters mutation could be part of a process that introduces mutants into the universe and it could also be a personal transformation like in "The Other" storyline. This would allow the movie to tell an more personal story about Spider-Man while also setting the stage for future developments in the universe. Now this combined idea seems the most likely because it explains the strange and unsettling elements in the trailer. Spider-Man is a part of the Marvel universe and his story could be connected to the X-Men. The movie "Brand New Day" could be the start of something exciting, for Spider-Man and the Marvel universe.

Man-Spider is Already in the Trailer

Alongside these ideas a growing fan theory says that Man-Spider might have already shown up. Or at least been hinted at. In the trailer for Brand New Day. The talk is about a prison scene where Peter is on the ground on his knees. He is being attacked by a group that many think is The Hand. What makes this scene stand out is not just where it is happening. How Peter is acting. He is in a position, kind of like an insect and he is moving really fast and aggressively. He does not seem like a superhero in a fight. Instead he looks like an animal. Some people point out that he grabs onto things and moves quickly like he is not in control. A few even say that in some frames it looks like he has arms or is in a weird position. This is hard to tell and might just be because the editing is fast.

If this idea is right the scene could be a step in Peter turning into Man-Spider. He is not Man-Spider yet like in "The Other". He is more out of control and scary. Man-Spider would be like a transition, where Peter loses himself for a second before becoming something. This fits with the movies themes of changing, being reborn and losing who you are.

Some people think the scene could be more about Peters head. Of actually turning into Man-Spider it could be a hallucination or a vision because he is scared. It could be because someone is messing with his mind (Sadie Sink’s character?). This would tie back to the idea that there are mutants and people with powers. In that case Man-Spider would be a symbol of Peters fear of becoming something

No matter what people think this theory is getting popular because it fits with the tone of the trailer. If Marvel is going for a body horror kind of thing including Man-Spider even if for a second could be one of the most unsettling takes, on Spider-Man ever.

Spider-Man will die

One of the stronger theories about the film’s ending is that Peter Parker will die. According to fans, either Hulk or Punisher would be the one to kill him. In the third act of the film, Parker is expected to transform into Man-Spider, becoming a massive threat. With no other option left, Frank or Hulk would then be forced to take him down.

However, to avoid such a sad ending, the theory suggests that Peter’s body would be taken over by a symbiote, which in the comics protects him from death. In this way, Marvel could both introduce the symbiote into the MCU and pave a new path forward for Peter at the same time.
